VA LGY Product Manager

The Product Manager supports and leads a product team to implement and document data modeling solutions which will include the use of relational, dimensional and NoSQL databases. These solutions support enterprise information management, business intelligence, machine learning, data science and other business interests for the Loan Guaranty Programs. The Product Manager will be required to interpret requirements, analyze data warehouse, and provide direction on development and product implementation that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.

Key Job Functions

  • Primary point of contact for business value streams across the program
  • Refine Strategic Objectives and Initiatives into loosely formed Epics
  • Understand data needs for Product team and make data available for Product consumption
  • Engage with Product Management and provide technical oversight and plans on how to model and profile data on Platform
  • Provide business context for Solution Architecture Package (SAP)
  • Liaise and design solution with external and internal stakeholders
  • Work with business value streams across the program to ensure development teams have prioritized and refined epics for PI consideration that meet customer needs
  • Define and Prioritize Initiatives and Strategic Objectives
  • Coordinate Epic/team dependencies across the aisle with other ART and System teams
  • With LGY/OIT Partnership own the Product Strategic Roadmap
  • Responsible for eliciting requirements and leading product team towards the development of conceptual, logical, and physical data models, implementation of RDBMS, operational data store, data marts, and data lakes on target platforms
  • Understand and represent user needs and needs of the business from a data management and data governance perspective
  • Oversee and specify research needed to determine needs and desires of users
  • Capture and prioritize requirements and document in JIRA
  • Understand the product and business vision and articulate those needs to the agile teams
  • Continually meet with business stakeholders to develop and prioritize the product backlog by decomposing the business needs into epics, features, and stories to be developed
  • Partner with product management across the solution train to identify and resolve dependencies, release management, and security needs

  • 5-7+ years in Financial Services
  • 2+ years’ experience with SQL querying
  • Team oriented; collaborates well with team members as well as customers
  • Can easily shift focus between high priority tasks as required
  • Proven ability to learn new business concepts and skills quickly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong attention to detail with proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with data warehouse, data lake, and enterprise big data platforms in multi-data-center contexts
  • Knowledge of metadata management, data modeling, and related tools
  • Experience with databases (SQL etc.) and programming (XML, JavaScript or ETL frameworks)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience with loan industry terminology data sets
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook)


Bachelor’s or master’s degree in statistics, computer science or relevant training

Minimum Experience

5-7+ years of related experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Understanding of mortgage processing
  • Familiarity with the mortgage industry to include working knowledge of mortgage data.
  • Experience with Veteran Affairs (Current PIV/GFE enablement).
  • Experience with client facing role.
  • SW development using Agile methodologies
  • Experience developing reports and dashboarding
  • Experience presenting analytic results in clear and concise presentation such as slides, memos, or reports
